About Us
For more than 30 years, AECOM and its legacy companies have partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to solve the nation's nuclear waste problem by helping to design, test and build a facility to dispose of transuranic, or TRU, waste. The waste began accumulating in the1940's with the onset of the U.S. nuclear defense program. The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant began disposal operations in March 1999 and has been achieving success in the nation's national cleanup program.
